Hello family and
friends!
What a great week here
in Ashington! Lots of changes, so it's been good!
Monday Sister Magallano
and I spent the day saying goodbye to everybody and so we didn't do much as far
as a PDay goes. She packed in the morning and then we cleaned really quickly
and just said goodbye the rest of the day to members. Then we drove to
Newcastle and spent the night with the Sisters there.
Tuesday we woke up early
and took Sister Magallano to the train station. Then we went back to the flat
for personal Study and then back to the train station to pick up our new
companions. So as I think I said last week, my new companion is Sister
Filikitonga and she is from Tonga. And as I learned on Tuesday, that translates
to "Proud to be Tongan!" So anyways, we came back to Ashington and
did our planning and shopping and then language Study. Then we went and saw
Eileen. We had a lesson with her about the Word of Wisdom and then did some street
contacting until tea with the Isles. Then we went to the Book of Mormon Class
before coming home for companionship study!
Wednesday we had
district meeting and got to know all the new people in the district. Then we
had lunch and went to see a less active family that came to church on Sunday!
They talked a lot...but we had a great time getting to know them and hearing
where their testimonies were at. Then we went to try by a few other people, did
language Study at the chapel and then had tea with the Broadfoots before coming
in for companionship study.
Thursday we did some
street contacting and knocking in the morning and then had a lesson with Elsie
and Emma. It sounds like Elsie's grandson might be about ready to take the
lessons! So that's good! Then we went to do service for the family we saw on Wednesday,
but they had to reschedule. So we went to the beach and then had language Study
and tea before companionship study.
Friday we had weekly
planning all morning and then went to see Amanda. She just got back from
holiday and so it was so good to see her! We talked a little long, but that's
ok. Then we tried by a few formers before tea with Pam and went to see a less
active family. We talked about what the Atonement means to them, so it was a
very powerful lesson!
Saturday we did tons of
street contacting in the rain! So that was fun! Then we had lunch and language
Study before doing more contacting at the beach. We met this really sweet new
mom. She wasn't interested, but I can feel she will be one day! Then we went to
see Winifred before tea with a member. It was so funny. We got there a little
early and nobody answered. So we knocked again, and nobody answered. Her car was
out front, so we knew she was in. So we called the house, and nobody answered.
Then we got worried and called the Relief Society president to get her cell
phone number. Then we knocked again and she answered. She was really glad we
were late because the food still wasn't completely done! Then halfway through
the meal, she realized her hearing aids were still off...
Sunday was great! We had
church and everybody welcomed Sister Filikitonga so well! Then we caught the
bus home and left our car at the chapel. Then we had lunch and language Study
and then walked back to the chapel talking to people. Then we had missionary
coordination and came in for comp study and tea!
My Spiritual Thought for
the week is from General Conference: "one important key to happiness is to
learn how to set our own goals and establish our own plans within the framework
of our Heavenly Father’s eternal plan. If we focus on this eternal path, we
will inevitably qualify to return to His presence."
-Elder M. Russell
Ballard "Return and Receive"
I think one of the
things I've learned most on my mission is how to set goals that (hopefully)
align with Heavenly Father's plan. I've learned a lot on my mission the
importance of involving Him in my eternal progression and allowing Him to
direct me in the ways I need to go and the next step I personally need to take.
Love you all! Hope you
had a great week too!
Sister Hope
