Hello Family and
Friends! What a week!
So Monday we had another
Zone PDay and had a little BBQ to celebrate AMERICA! So that was fun
introducing Sister Magallano to some American traditions! Then we went and
visited Kayleigh and had a fun lesson with her. She's working hard to memorize
the 13th article of faith! Such an example! Then we went to help a member with
her family history. She was getting upset because none of the temple work had
been done, so we had to show her how to click the right button to share them
with the temple, and not reserve them...so that should help her! Then we tried
by a few formers and less actives, but nobody was in.
Tuesday was interesting.
So we were supposed to have exchanges in Newcastle, but Tuesday morning,
Sister Connolly called and said she had a feeling that she and I should come
back to Ashington. So I drove to Newcastle and dropped Sister Magallano off and
then drove back...with no plans! But it was ok. we saw two less actives and had
some great conversations with them. It was funny though because they're mother
and daughter (but not living together anymore because the daughter has her own
family...) and it felt like the exact same lesson twice because they shared the
same stories and so we testified of the same things! It was great though and
the Spirit is definitely working with them! Then we had a super early tea break
because we got the times mixed up and thought we had to be back to
Newcastle at 5:30, but it was supposed to be 6:30, and we realised
that on the way there. Good thing we left when we did though because we still
caught the traffic and only got there closer to 6. So we did some street
contacting in Newcastle until the other sisters were done. Then trying to get
home was a nightmare with the traffic. So we missed the Book of Mormon Class
and went straight to another less active family's house. They're finally making
some progress! They're reading the Book of Mormon again and were actually
excited to read with us! SO that was a huge blessing for me since I was so
tired from the insane traffic in Newcastle.
Wednesday we were all
over. We had a super early district meeting in North Shields and then another
zone service project at Saltwell Park. So that was a lot of driving again.
Totally wiped me out! Then we had to rush home to change and go see Elsie and
Emma. Elsie is so cute! She had found a bunch of her old quotes and stuff from
when she was first taught by the missionaries and made copies of them for us
and had them all ready for us. It was so sweet! Then we finally got to plan for
our day! We went to Morpeth and tried by Alan and Marisol, but they weren't in,
so we did some street contacting in the park before going to our tea
appointment. then we walked along the river before coming in for our studies!
Thursday I was tired of
driving. so we took the bus to see Gemma and had a great lesson with her about
the Restoration. She's still having a hard time grasping the concept of Faith,
so we'll see how it goes with her. But it should be good! Then we had lunch and
went on a mini treasure hunt for a recent convert! She went on holiday a few
weeks earlier and we hadn't heard from her since, so we decided to drop by her
house. We went to her house and her neighbors told us she moved to a
sheltered accommodation, so we went where he told us to and she wasn't there.
So they told us another place that always gets confused with them, so we went
there and nobody had heard of her. So we went all over the town and couldn't
find her...so that was pretty much our day. Then we had tea with the Branch
President and his family and then had our studies before Branch Council.
Friday we had weekly
planning all morning and then went to a lunch appointment with some members.
Then we tried to contact a referral, but they didn't answer. So we did some
street contacting in the park and did our companionship study in the park. Then
we picked up a member and went to see Alan and Marisol. They had just gotten
back from a long trip, so we just got to know them better. They said they
weren't much in the mood for a lesson because they were so tired and prefer to
do their own research so we left them a pamphlet and started on our way home.
On our way home, I asked Sister Magallano to get our phone out of my bag and
see if we'd missed any calls. Well, we discovered that our phone was not in my
bag, nor in hers. So we pulled over, dumped both our bags out and searched
under the seats. Then we went back to the park to see if we'd left it on the
bench we did companionship study at and then went to a members house to use
their phone to call our district leader, said lots of prayers, and went home
because it was...close to 10 by that point...
Saturday we woke up
super early and went back to the park so we could do our morning exercise there
and listen for our phone. No luck, so we went home and did our morning studies.
Then we spent the entire day looking all over for the phone. We had one lesson
in the middle, but other than that, we spent the entire day looking for the
phone and praying hard. Still didn't find it. So we finally had to give up and
call the mission office and the Zone Leaders from a member's phone. The Zone
Leaders came and gave us one of their phones for the weekend...such a long,
long day honestly. But we did have transfer calls! It was such a shock to us,
but Sister Magallano is leaving and I am staying in Ashington! I'll be getting
a new companion tomorrow and she is from Tonga and has been out about the same
amount of time as me, just one transfer more. So we should have a great time in
the area and I'm so excited to learn from her!
Sunday we had church and
then spent the rest of the afternoon saying goodbye to members and less actives
for Sister Magallano. Then we came home and finished "The District"
for her to finish her training! She is officially all grown up and flying the
nest!
My spiritual thought
comes from conference
"what does it mean
to walk with the Lord? It means to do what He does, to serve the way He serves.
He sacrificed His own comforts to bless those in need, so that’s what we try to
do. He seemed to take particular notice of people who were overlooked and even
shunned by society, so we should try to do that too. He testified boldly yet
lovingly of the true doctrine He received from His Father, even if it was
unpopular, and so must we. He said to all, “Come unto me”, and we say to all,
“Come unto Him.”"
-"Walk With
Me" by President Henry B. Eyring
Have a great week!
Sister Hope
